Regulation Information Accident Prevention Signs and Tags §1910.145 What is Covered? The specifications found in the OSHA regulations are intended to cover all safety signs except those designed for streets, highways, railroads, and marine regulations. These specifications do not apply to plant bulletin boards or to safety posters. Sign Design All signs must have rounded or blunt corners and should not have any sharp edges, burrs, splinters or other sharp projections. The ends or heads of bolts or other fastening devices shall be located in such a way that they do not constitute a hazard. Sign Colors Danger signs are to be red, black, and white. Caution signs are to be yellow background, black letters. Slow-moving vehicle signs are to be fluorescent yellow-orange triangles, with a dark red reflective border. The biological hazard warning is to be fluorescent orange or orange-red, with lettering or symbols in a contrasting color. Wording The wording of any sign should: • be easily read and to the point; • contain sufficient, easy-to-understand information; • make a positive suggestion, and • be accurate in fact.
