Safety Training - Exercises Exercise - HSE Coordinator 1.Cut hand Content:Objectives: Use the following scenario to have the trainees discuss how they would respond to an injured co-worker. The trainees should be able to: 1. Demonstrate how employees are to summon first aid providers. 2. Describe the location of first aid kits at your facility or jobsite. 3. Discuss how the first aid providers would assess, treat, and follow-up on the injury. 4. Identify the types of PPE the first aid providers would select. 5. Demonstrate how to put on, remove, and dispose of the PPE. 6. Describe necessary follow-up procedures (evaluations by medical personnel in case of an exposure incident and the procedures necessary to clean up and decontaminate surfaces and items that were contaminated with blood). Be prepared to coach and ask questions as the trainees discuss the scenario. Scenario: You’re at work and you hear a shout. One of your co-workers rushes over to you, holding his right hand. He’s got a nasty cut between the thumb and index finger. While the cut looks deep, and it is bleeding freely, there is no evidence of a cut artery or any foreign material caught in the wound. Works Well With: Small groups of less than 10 trainees. Preparation Time: About 1/2 hour to gather any sample first aid supplies, PPE, and other items to use during the exercise. Materials Required: Provide samples of first aid supplies, PPE, clean-up/decontamination supplies, or other items if you want the trainees to supplement the discussion with demonstrations.
